Through interactive service-learning programs and learning about the founding fathers, students will be inspired to develop innovative ideas that promote productive change within their local communities. Remembering that YOUR school will participate in creating the itinerary that best suits their class or trip needs. Students will learn about early pioneers like Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and George Washington as they come to understand leadership principles that helped lay the foundation of this nation and its capitol.
On each DC Journey, we create a moment for your students. They will learn the how-to’s of how to navigate the train/metro system, engage in the Great Race designed to instill leadership, team building, and team work – along with other purposeful activities to cultivate a Journey to remember.

We engage students in meaningful service projects easily and swiftly. For example, after your students enjoy time at the Capital Building tour, we may bring them nearby to a food packing event where they will learn about the issues of hunger and homelessness that our Capital (among many other cities) face. Then, students will move along to another section of the city and continue their time in DC.
The idea behind intentional serving while on a class trip, whether the 8th grade or the 10th, is to link an educational, service oriented, and/or global perspective where they go. This can be done in a variety of ways, all being crafted for your school.
Some of the sites that may be included in your customized itinerary are:
Washington Monument, World War II Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, Korean War Memorial, the White House, Iwo Jima Memorial and Dr. Luther King, Jr. Memorial.

High School Students
Customized for your class/dates/size & may include all transportation (from school), Journey Leader/guide, serve day coordination, train/metro tickets and meals.
It’s here, right where we live. It affects every single neighborhood in our region. It impacts people of every age, race, religion, and ethnicity. Hunger robs children of a chance to learn, undermines health, and makes getting and holding good jobs hard.
The Capital Area Food Bank is the largest organization in the Washington metro area working to solve hunger and its companion problems: chronic undernutrition, heart disease, and obesity. By partnering with 444 community organizations in DC, MD, and VA, as well as delivering food directly into hard to reach areas, the CAFB is helping 540,000 people each year get access to good, healthy food. That’s 12% of our region’s mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, and grandparents.
SOME (So Others Might Eat) is an interfaith, community-based organization that exists to help the poor and homeless of our nation’s capital. We meet the immediate daily needs of the people we serve with food, clothing, and health care. We help break the cycle of homelessness by offering services, such as affordable housing, job training, addiction treatment, and counseling, to the poor, the elderly and individuals with mental illness. Each day, SOME is restoring hope and dignity one person at a time. We invite you to join us.
