For thousands of years Spain has been one of the cultural centers of Europe. It’s artistic heritage include dominant figures of the Golden Age, El Greco and Diego Velazquez. During the 18th century Francisco de Goya emerged as Spain’s most prolific painter. Then, during the 20th century a remarkable group of Spanish artists emerged: Pablo Picasso, Juan Gris, Joan Miro and Salvador Dali, ambassadors of the artistic culture of Spain.
Spain also boasts amazing architecture ranging from the prehistoric monuments in Minorca in the Balearic Islands, to the Roman ruins of Merida and Tarragona. Gothic cathedrals, castles, amazing modernist monuments and Gaudi’s intricate fabulist sculpture in Barcelona – all a testament to the rich culture of Spain.
During this 7-day Journey we will tour Madrid and visit the Padro Musuem which is widely considered to have the world’s finest collections of European art, dating from the 12th century. We will also visit the Picasso Museum in the beautiful seaside City of Malaga and tour the Alcazaba of Malaga, a palatial fortification built by the Hammudid Dynasty in the early 11th century. The Alcazaba is the best-preserved citadel in Spain and it is also adjacent to remnants of a Roman theatre dating back to the 1st century BC.
